The girls were so excited to have mormor and morfar here again. I can't say grandma and grandad because they live in England...Jon flew off to cold snowy Sweden and my parents came to visit sunny Dubai. The weather was warm and not too windy, a bit like a nice Swedish summer. Not too hot and not too cold.
They took the girls shopping in H&M of all places in Dubai, but I must say you do get a lot of good stuff for the money you pay. The kids' stores here are either expensive designer stores like Ralph Laurent, Gap, Tommy Hillfinger, Monsson or cheap, bad quality and tacky. So, H&M it was. We also had a great day at the beach, calm sea and lovely sun. James was a bit weary to start with, didn't like the salty water, but in the end we had to carry him screaming out of the water. Now he is like a fish. Maybe you think he should be completely use to it by now, but the truth is that we've had 'winter' in Dubai since December and have mainly been in the pool. If that.
One day I took mum and dad to see the Sheik Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi. It's supposed to become the 7th wonder of the world, I think. It will most definitely be one of the most expensive wonders of the world, anyway. No costs spared, as the old Sheik said before he died. He is burried at the mosque in a special building where someone prays live 24h a day...most have been a special guy...My dad almost got arrested for taking a picture of us with the building in the background...no pictures of the grave allowed apparently. The tour was very interesting and kind of made Islam seem so much more light-hearted and possible. One man asked why men and women had to pray in different rooms and the guide answered: Well when you pray you have to be completely devoted to the Koran and the different movements that you need to do during pray. So if a beautiful lady suddenly sat down next to me to do her praying, what do you think I would be concentrating on...? Made us all laugh of course...Mum and I had to dress in abayas to go on the tour, which was an experience. I did feel quite beautiful, although the veil kept falling down my neck all the time, showing my hair. Hopefully I din't upset anyone.
The girls were sad to see mormor and morfar go, but I told them we'll be home in Sweden soon. The next day they were very happy to see their dad again, so that kind of made up for their loss, of course :-)
And then I had a cold and was very tired and kind of felt a bit homesick, but that's another story...
Looking forward to seeing many of you soon!!
Anna
